IK The Captains Message ,N , y 1-ya... Commander P.L. Murphy U.S. Navy The cruise which this book commemorates took place in the Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and the Persian Gulf during the period 21 March through 15 October 1960. During this time the USS SAMUEL B. ROBERTS was operating as a unit of the United States Sixth Fleet. As such, we were on the first team as a member of our country 's mobile first line of defense. The ship participated in many Fleet Operations and always performed any and all missions Destroyers are called upon to perform capably and professionally. This was our purpose and it has been fulfilled. To all hands who served aboard the USS SAMUEL B. ROBERTS during this cruise, a most deserved WELL DONE. Coincidental to our operations are memories of places visited experiences ained I 8 by working together, and friendships developed throughout the cruise.
