Cheerleaders, Each year, 16 spirited Texans are elected to act as cheerleaders and bellguards to attend all athletic events and encourage school unity and enthusiasm at games and pep rallies. Supporting all varsity team mem- bers this year were Karen Wiser, Donita Schenck, Sharon Apel, Ruth Bellguards Back Texan Teams Acker, Debbie Cowin, .lanie Clark, Pam jankowiak and Lou Ann Un- derwood, while ,lean Fearheiley, Carol McCants, Debra Mitchell, and Cindy Adkins cheered B-teamers. This year for the first time SHHS Bellguards were chosen by the stu- dent body instead of the traditional selection by faculty members alone. Applications were reviewed by teachers, and finalists were later presented to the Junior and Sopho- more Classes for a vote. Guarding the Texan mascot and sounding its ring of victory for the '71-'72 season were Wayne Jolly, Cheryl Mitchell, Danny Henderson, and Judy Makowski.

West Relived At Sam City On March 24, the Old West was revived as once again the Student Congress sponsored Texan Day. Held annually, the day permitted students to use their imagination not only with their dress but assum- ing the familiar characters and citi- zens of old western boom towns. Constructed in the courtyard, Sam City was the scene for gun battles, saloon girls and a live show for spectators. Each building was erected by the joint efforts of two organizations. A Texan Day Dance was held to climax the dayis activities. 5822221 ea' 'N s Junior Terry Johannescn thinks he might like it butter in Dangerfiz-ld than in Sam City so he decides to get a ticket and leave on dthe junior-sponsored stage. kbs!
