Singing Heard As Welcome Howdy Day fell on the morning of Friday, Sept. 10. Although it came earlier than expected, it proved to he a successful initiation of the Sophomore Class to Texan spirit. The first pep rally of the year for the game against Southwest set the stage for the slaughter of the Mick- ies. After the pep rally, seniors and juniors retreated to the courtyard where they anxiously awaited the re- lease of the sophs from their class meeting. The singing session was contin- ued until about ll that morning. An assembly reenacting the tradi- tion was seheduled for the following weekis pep rally but was cancelled. After the game that night was over. a dance was held in the cafete- ria to round out the day's events. On Howdy Day, Mickey Mouse becomes more than just a Disneyland character. The Mickey Mouse ears have become a symbol of sophomores before they become Texans. s fl 4, 5' . t , ri . er we I if it Y ft M 5 w ge, 1 ' 'M if , ,J gmu 1 I' Juniors find it is not as easy to catch a mouse as they Jimmy Adkins and Pam Morris enjoy being able to pull rank thought it would be. West Relived At Sam City On March 24, the Old West was revived as once again the Student Congress sponsored Texan Day. Held annually, the day permitted students to use their imagination not only with their dress but assum- ing the familiar characters and citi- zens of old western boom towns. Constructed in the courtyard, Sam City was the scene for gun battles, saloon girls and a live show for spectators. Each building was erected by the joint efforts of two organizations. A Texan Day Dance was held to climax the dayis activities. 5822221 ea' 'N s Junior Terry Johannescn thinks he might like it butter in Dangerfiz-ld than in Sam City so he decides to get a ticket and leave on dthe junior-sponsored stage. kbs!
