Just like all the other groups of Sam Houston exes, this all looks good, but it will never be as great as the three DWI? ' one thinks, Well, it years I spent here. Homecoming '71 proved to be very distinguishable from those of Sam Houston's past. Returning exes recognized many changes in the tra- ditional activities from the decora- tions to the selection of queen. Reigning queen, Karlos Thomas, added a special touch to the Home- coming pep rally, as former Texans gathered into the gym to hear Mayor Tom Vandergriff. Each sponsored by an organiza- tion, 27 senior girls were chosen as nominees. The number of contend- ers for the crown was reduced, as this year for the first time eight fi- nalists were elected by an all school student body vote. The finalists and their escorts were presented twice .during the lively week of poster parties and preparations for the coronation. To top off the entire week, the Varsity Texans won the Homecoming game by a 36-point margin. ominees Narrowed to Eight for First Time Before throwing footballs to onlookers, Mayor Vandergriff instmcted the Texan team to take notes on his techniques. Karlos Thomas, the 1970-'71 Homecoming queen, is welcomed by seniors Rex Perry and Ron Lutz on her visit back to Sam.
