It was built in the 1890 ' s for Robert Goelet who donated it to the Bishop of Providence in 1947. Ochre Court is modeled after a middle age chateaux of Frances ' s Loire Valley and is almost a per- fect replica of Edward VII ' s castle in Paris. Today Ochre Court houses administrative offices and the College chap- el. It is also the scene of many of the formal dances, recep- tions, and other social gatherings held at the Newport Col- lege. Ochre Court is one of the several unique buildings on the campus. NEWPORT, the city by the sea, is Antony-a- Wood ' s answer to those things which are required to make a university ' A pleasant and tranquil place with water or woods that invite students to stay and abide there are necessary commodities. Newport, since the revolution, is indeed such a place. After the English and French occupation Newport ' s economy declined drastically and soon the summer visitor became its main source of income. After the civil war new wealth came to New- port as the children of the gilded age built mansion after man- sion. Industry never flourished in Newport and the slow and tranquil way of life became attractive to scholars and artists alike. Giles Peresich Judith Gifford Sr. Mauricita Stapleton Placement Office Sr Mary Marjorie Walsh Tutorial Services st charles Francis Dubuque 33 The Class of 1980 dedicates this edition of the Regina Maris to the memory of Dr. Charles W. Cooke. A 1950 graduate of Boston University, he received his B.S. Degree in Business Adminis- tration. After serving in the United States Navy, Dr. Cooke entered the F.B.I. , and served there until 1975. During that period he attended the St. John ' s University School of Law, and was awarded a Juris Doctorate Degree. Upon retiring form the F.B.I. , he accepted a position as a Associate Professor in the Law Enforcement program at the Salve. Soon afterwards he was appointed Chairman of the Department of Criminal Justice. While serving in that capacity, he initiated several in- strumental changes in the department. As Chairman, he was always available to students of both his department as well as the college community. He maintained a sincere interest in his students and served as both educator and friend.
