We ' re here for a liberal education, strictly defined. Somehow we are supposed to live outside the educative process while at the same time we are educated by it. Sure, we ' ve seen changes. Freshmen no longer have to be in by 11:45 and jeans are tolerated. Though we ' ve gained some specifics, we ' ve never really achieved student rights. How do we make them understand that we ' re striving for a principle? We want to govern ourselves and we want to determine our own futures. But we ' ve heard this all before. For once — just once — we wish someone would listen. Sometimes we wonder if what we wanted isn ' t quite what Salve wanted to give us. Dissatisfied students are found at any college but this increased number has everyone worried. We hear If you don ' t like it, then leave. That ' s not the problem — we can get out but now that we ' re here why do we feel cheated? More than living we want to be alive. To be free, to think, and to learn. We want a college that will help us to meet the challenges of modern life. 10
