Students are the nucleus of any high school and Salisbury is no exception. From 8:50 to 3:30, five days a week, students gather to learn, meet friends and attend school functions. There are always new things happening here and one must keep their eyes open to catch it all. There are assemblies, dances, games, meetings and of course, classes to attend. Students are truly busy people. Somehow they also find time to devote to part-time jobs which may range from store clerk to mechanic to nurse's aide. They learn responsibility as well as the ability to organize their time. Where would you expect to find a student socializing? Ask a student and they will tell you it would be at lunch, in the halls, in the parking lot, in the old gym or sorry to say, in the classroom. These times are important, nevertheless, because a student may only get the chance to see certain friends at these meeting places. The ending of school for another year may bring mixed feeling from the faculty and students. Most can be described as relieved, happy or even a twinge of sadness as everyone realizes another year has come to a close. Yes, the students at SHS are interest- ing. They're also spirited, caring and busy. It takes cooperation from each individual to make this building come alive. It also takes determination and the courage to give each activity your all. In this, all may agree that the students at SHS have found their “Ticket to Success”. 32 Student Lite page 32: I. L. Carroll; page 33: I. B. Harmon, P. Wright; 2. S. Bagby. G. Taylor, K. With their schoolwork, school activities, and recreational time, they meet busy schedules on a day-to-day basis. Employment is another area of learning in the high school years. It's a common practice of several students at SHS. Even though many school activities occupy a large amount of time for several students, many of them hold part-time jobs throughout the community. Ranging from baton lessons to bookkeeping to auto mechanics, SHS not only instructs a population of the learning; but of the working as well. MAAG INTERNA TIONAL SALES AND SERVICE. INC. The four wins came over Warrenton, North Callaway, Fayette, and Schuyler Co. It was an action-filled season with an explosive passing game, good running attack, and tough defense. The Panthers always played hard and never gave up. Four of the six losses came to playoff-bound teams. The other two losses came on hard fought battles against Slater and an exciting 13-12 overtime loss to rival Marceline. The future looks good for the young Panther team. These young ladies answered the challenge of a new season with great amounts of both. This year's team overcame many obstacles to earn their 20-7 record. They replaced four starting seniors of last year and despite some inexperience, pulled themselves together and played as a team. - Dennis Humphrey Once again Coach Dennis Humphrey's Lady Panthers had a successful season with a 20 - 7 record. Even with a successful record, disappointments came along the way. Arch rivals, Fayette and Paris, dashed Panther hopes for major victories. Paris was first in ending hopes for the LCC crown. Fayette stepped in during district play and terminated the Lady Panther's quest for a second crown. All in all, the season was deemed very successful and watchful eyes are awaiting next year’s action. Page 60: I. Tip-off action. 2. J. Hartmann. D. Bailey. 3. Time-out. 4. S. Fuemmclcr shoots. The fresh- men girls were young and many had just begun playing together as a team. Even though they only ended the season with a 5-5 record, the girls learned the value of team unity. They also gained a lot of valuable exper- ience to carry them into next season. The JV ended their season with a 7-3 record. The JV team placed second in their own tournament. They were narrow- ly defeated by Paris in the championship game. Paris also dealt them two other losses during the regular season. With the exception of the losses to Paris, the JV team was virtually unstoppable. The four leading sophomores also proved them- selves to be valuable substitut- ing assets to the varsity team.
