The years 195 1, 1952, and 1955 will see Salemls most extensive school building program undertaken. Construction of an- other high school is scheduled to be started in 195 5. Responsible for this program and future improve- ments in educational facilities for Salem are the members of the school board. This group which rep- resents the community is in itself typical of Salem citizens. Representing Salem on the school board are the sec- retary of the Y.M.C.A., a woman active in communi- ty affairs, the office manager of a business establish- ment, and the owners of two Salem business firms. Co-operating with these members is Mr. Frank Ben- nett, Superintendent of Salem Public Schools. Chairman Harry W, Scott, Superintendent Frank B. if Uur Citizens Assume Community Responsibility 4 Salem students participate in the annual city-Wide Community Chest Drive, They realize the many civic problems that face Americans of today and start now to try to meet them. Active support is also given to the March of Dimes fund, the tuberculosis drive, and the American Red Cross. Salem students also offer their talents to the com- munity as music groups perform for city service groups and clubs as well as at state institutions. Also a part of community life are the high school's dra- matic productions, concerts, and sports events.
