In this course students learn the fundamentals of writing script and using sound effects. Their programs are broadcast on a regular schedule over the two Salem radio stations. Seniors have a wide variety ot one-se- mester courses from which to choose. Equiv- alent in credit to senior composition are journalism and creative writing. Second se- mester electives are senior literature, drama, public speaking, and debate. These courses provide voice training and opportunity for expression. Edmundson Elizabeth Hogg Delores Hultman Martha Pinson LaRue Richards Head of Commercial Bookkeeping Shorthand Typing Shorthand Typing Department Typing TYPlf19 Bookkeeping Bookkeeping Practical training that enables a student to prepare during high school for a career in business is offered by the commercial department. ln addition to the three-year business course, there is also personal typing, which is one semesters instruction in typing for the student's personal use. Other courses are both Gregg and Thomas shorthand, bookkeeping, business principles and office training. Each year approximately six hundred titty students use the departments one hundred twenty-five typevvriters. Page 13

Home Ee Courses Show Application of Homemaleing Skills A family relations class enrolling both boys and girls with regular credit is offered for the first time in the home economics department this year. Important phases of the work in this all-senior class are personal ad- justment, preparation for marriage and child care. Foods and clothing classes offer girls a chance to learn practical use of sewing and cooking for homemaking. Other phases of efficient house- keeping are taught in home furnishings and home management. The foods laboratory is equipped with modern stoves and refrigera- tors which provide an all electric kitchen for class use. Here students are able to put into use information learned in class.
