Under the leadership ot' Ilarlow An- Iaeny, editor, and Bill Nlerriam, manager, the I9-15-46 Clarion, official semi-monthly puhlication of Salem Iligh School, has had one of its most successful years in its long history. Rated as the hest all-around high school newspaper in the state of Oregon, The Clarion, thisyear, received the Arnold Ben- nett Hall cup from the University of Ure- gon's 18th annual newspaper contest. There were 72 other high school newspapers en- tered in this U. of U. contest. Students on the main editorial statil were Nancy Buren, capahle and faithful news editor: Margaret Simpson, feature editor with outstanding originality, and Holm IVIeye, ahle sports editor, who also assisted the editor in the actual mechanical supervision ot' typesetting and printing at the Statesman Publishing Company on Nvednesday and 'lihursday ol' every other week. Lois Nlulcahy and lean Ilatfield served as the two main reporters while Buster Yvilson, Cole Stephens and joe Eoff snapped the many pictures that appeared in the I9-I5-46 Clarion. Editorial adviser was Mrs. Leah Ilogueg Mr. Preston Dougliton served as husiness adviser. All husiness transactions were handled hy Bill IVIerriam, a most capalwle and enterprising manager. Changing the puhlication date from Yvednesday to Friday, the standardization ot type style, the increase in the numher of pictures, and editorials dealing increasingly more with actual school prohlems, were some of the modifications made hy this year's staff.
