F ORE WORD If this, the Clarion Annual of 1935, can bring to you memorieseold friends, old incidents, old dreams - and can picture to every interested person the working of an institution that is the greatest friend of progress and happiness, it will justify the labor expended in its production. In constructing this year book an attempt was made to exemplify the spirit of the Vikings. The measure in which this ejort has succeeded will be indicated by the following pages. May they grow more precious with the passing of time.

TO A RIVER Twilight falls on the Willamette, A handful of silver stars begin Twinkling their merry way Across the heavens As if to show I-Iow the trees along its banks form Stately shadows- lVIarching in long rows Like soldiers, off to conquer Each enemy or foe While at night each purple sunset Brings these rows of stately trees To guard your banks at twilight. Oh, river reverie! -Beverly A. Roethlin, Class of '35 BRANCI-IES AND WIND Bare, brown branches-reaching to grey sky, Cold, stark branches-reaching just as I Seek comfort, looking to heaven. Mute, scrawny branches-stretch so alone, Leaf-stripped, poor branches-hear the wind moan just as a troubled soul moans to blank space.
