In Mr. Mark Johnson's phys- iology classes, students receive basic knowledge in health and anatomy. They make notebooks pertaining to the current course of study. During the latter part of the year, the classes study occupational civics. Mr. Mark H. Johnson B.S. in Ed.; Physiology, Drivers' Education, Assistant Basketball Coach, Assistant Football Coach; Southern Illinois University. SCIENCE INTERRELATED VOCATIONAL Interrelated Cooper- ative Vocational Education, anew program at S.C.H.S., is designed to train students as they work. Mr. B. J. Lance is the coordi- nator. Most students work half a day and attend school half a day. Students receive two credits from the class. In this program students learn to do in an on- the-job atmosphere. Mr. B. J. Lance B.S. Mr. Lester A. Deason B.E.; M.A.; Biology, Assistant Football Coach; Southern Illinois University, Colorado State College of Education. Biology students in Mr. Lester Deason's classes fre- quently work in the laboratory. During this time they may clas- sify insects or leaves or work with the microscopes. Lab work plus class recitation provides a good foundation in biology. Mr. Robert Jamison B.S.; Chemistry, Physiology; Eureka College; Science Club; Pep Club; Chaparels. 26 SCIENCE Mr. Robert Jamison often instructs his chemistry students in the proper methods of per- forming experiments in the lab- oratory. In addition to experi- ments, the students also take part in extensive classroom work.

Students in Mr. Paul Arnold's wood classes use selec- ted hardwoods to construct var- ious pieces of furniture. During the year they learn the proper use of such equipment as rad- ical arm saw, lathe, and thick- ness planer. Mr. Robert D. Cone B.S.; M. Ed.; Agriculture; Centralia Junior College, University of Illinois, Junior Class; F.F.A. 28 VOCATIONAL Soil science, taught by Mr. Robert Cone, provides boys with a foundation for later work in agriculture. This course i s a great asset for those who will later be employed in fields re- lated to farm management.
