c A F E T E R Two seniors, John Vieira and Ken Francois are I shown going through the lunch line during the fifth I hour lunch period. a The fifth hour is the regular lunch period for most students. The lunches, prepared by Miss Ava Newman and her staff, are economical ana well balanced. The cafeteria is well equipped and provides a cheerful place for the students both for eating and studying. In addition to preparing daily meals for the students at S.C.H.S. the ladies pictured above provide meals for the athletes before out-of-town games and are responsible for the delicious food served at the sports banquets. They are Miss Ava Newman, Mrs. Mae Fry, Mrs. Mildred Fry, Mrs. Goldie Myers, and Mrs. Oneta Stevenson, Mrs. Virginia Pechar is not pictured. The band members, Wildcatettes, and 5th hour typing students enjoy eating during the fourth hour to avoid conflict with their fifth hour classes. LIBRARY Our library, seating 128 students, provides a center in which to read for pleasure or for fact-finding. It is equipped with many valuable sets of books, the latest magazines, and various types of other reference material which are useful to the student. Besides being beautiful and spacious, the library sup- plies an atmosphere which is conducive for study. It is in use during regular class periods and is also open before school and at noon for the advantage of the students. Miss Genevieve Hayes, our librarian, is always willing to help the students in their use of library facilities. GUIDANCE Salem students are fortunate in having an expert guid- counsels with students throughout their four years.
