Superintendent B. E. Gum Pictured above is Mr. B. E. Gum, the ever faithful superintendent of Salem schools. We students can always find him in his office, ready and willing to help us with any problems we may have. He has many duties and responsibilities, which are never neglected. Because of Mr. Gum's executive ability and long and valuable experience, Salem Community High School has established an enviable reputation for smooth running efficiency. The Salemarion here salutes, with respect and admiration, our superintendent. At the top of the page are pictured the office secretaries, Mrs. Eileen Koelling and Miss Mary Jane O'Bryant, who expertly assist Mr. Gum in the central office. 21

To The Seniors Of 1959: We congratulate you, the class of 1959, one hundred ninety strong! It has been my very happy privilege and pleasure to have worked with you through the past years, hence, have learned to know you well. Many of you are very well prepared to go on to college, and it is my sincere wish that you do so. Your world almost demands that you be well trained if you expect to accomplish much. We hope that you may keep in touch with us after your graduation, and that we may still be of some service and help to you in the future. You are going to get out of life just about what you put into it. Best of luck to each one of you. Sincerely, B. E. Gum, Supt. BEG:EDK

Boards of Education The men and women who are elected to serve on our Boards of Education are loyal and interested citizens who have only one desire — to make our schools the very best possible. We of the staff feel that we have an outstanding group, who serve us very efficiently. These members are never too busy to take time from their daily work to solve the problems and determine the policies of our schools. Serving their community without pay, these board members are responsible to a very great extent for the high standing and efficiency of our school systems. Therefore we gratefully dedicate this page to our Boards of Education of Districts 111 and 600. In the top picture, left to right, the members of the Board of District 111 are: Mf. Lee Cantrell, president; Mr. Louis Gruenkemeyer, Mr. Dietz Hamilton, Mrs. Mabel James, secretary; Mrs. Charles Roberts, Mr. Nelson Page, Mr. A. J. Sweney, and Mr. B. E. Gum, superintendent. In the lower picture, left to right, the members of the Board of District 600 are: Mr. Earl Holt, president; Mr. J. F. Morton, Mr. Carl Pratt, Mrs. Eileen Koehlling, secretary; Mr. B. E.
