The band started the program by playing marches. Butch Newport, president of the Student Council. greeted all the alumni. Hal Woolley and Louie Gruenkemeyer were co-chairmen of this event. The mixed ensemble and glee club. under the direction of Miss Charlotte Holt. sang some appropri- ate songs. Many alumni and others attended the dance at the Armory after the Homecoming game. The dance began at 10 p. m. with Les Jackson and his orchestra furnishing the music. Page Twenty GATHERING OF ALUMNI In the above picture just a few oi the many alumni are shown. Mr. Quinn Lewis and Mrs, Ida McMzickin Thompson were introciueed as the two oldest alumni. Some of the earlier grnduatinsr classes. from 1897 to 1910. met with Mr, Gum in his oftice. The classes of 1926 and 1942 met in the cafeteria. A11 of these groups seemed to enjoy very much the opportunity to meet anti recall old :ind me- morable experienecs. and to bring their histories up to date. Page Twenty-one FOOTBALL BANQUET The fourteenth annual football banquet was held November 18 in the Salem High School cafeteria The speaker of the evening was Mr. Jack Prowell, sports editor of the Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette. He spoke on sports, particularly the University of Illinois teams. Thirty-seven boys received their letters. of whom twenty were seniors. The seniors receiving their letters were Winston Tate, Butch Newport. Bob Stuber. Jack Woods, Richard Garner, Bill Parkinson. Danny Bump. Frank Brinkerhoff, John Sweet, Jim Van Horn. J, D. Hargis, Art Wallace. Ed Bigelow. Joe Black. Robin Satterthwaite. Tom Glenn. Tom Qualls. Lewis Morton, Ed Boyd. and Harold Morton. Bob Scoles acted as master of ceremonies for the evening.
