Dedication I had fun fun fun today - this woman, she is rather unusual, has a turtle like Skipadee and I gave this turtle, Turtel. a ride on this record by Dylan Thomas which was a muchly lot of the hugest words! This woman she is my mostly favoritest person here. Every afternoon she rests because she is tired tired tired from her most absolutely full day teaching English and then I find her glasses and she reads to me Scrihbler's Club themes while I braid Turtel's ears so he wonit get cross and develop a rash like Skipa- dee, my turtle does. One of these stories was about this most terriblest storm that came up and it rained and all this thunder was clomping itself into this water and all these people were drowning without air and ohl It was absolutely awfullest, hut she says it is just a story and then we skihhle down to the Social Room M it's this monstrously big room 1 and this woman says. Shall we settle down? and I say, Shall we settle down? and then she says, Let's begin! and l say, MLet's beginlv and oooooo she absolutely directs plays most wonderfully! This woman, my mostest companion. is tremendously loved by all here as much as by me and so they dedicate this 1957 QtLiUPenftol1e1', Miss ,lulanne Lynn. Love. ME l1lla,0l5l1l,' '--a '-1. E1 K 'N 1 0 PAGE T8 Foreword . The elusive quality that permeates the atmosphere of Salem is most successfully defined as a way of life. This year we have an elusive and lovable little character, Eloise, who flirts through the pages, depicting the moods and means of our life at Salem that each of us, student and faculty, has contributed to. As the pages unfold and our days unravel the smorgashordian array of one hundred Eloises laugh, cry, study, and play through a productive year-each unique yet united by the mystical bond that represents Salem. Treasurer: Elinor Glenn, Vive-President Dee Smith, Secretary: Sally Ann Piewe, President Senior Class S Summer Wealth of memories waned and the fall, a variegated panorama was upon us bringing in its leafy arms our Senior year. This was really our year and a feeling of warmth suffused the class as we realized that for once we were the oldest and took over Salem on Senior Day. Cash slips, charge accounts, and adding machines ushered in the animal Christmas Senior Bazaar. Wlioevei' dreamed that rings Havored tea? Finally the last flurry of excitement, graduation invitations, calling cards, the Senior-Faculty breakfast, Class Day, and Graduation. The oldest he- came the youngest once more. We all had a wonderful time at the slate convention in Chapel Hill. where we learned more about what Latin students at other schools are doing to make the subject more interesting. Among other things we performed in several entertaining and educational Latin plays during the year and held many challenging contests and spelling bees.
