The Year In Page 44 9 v an 2.4 bu ' C I QW Under the durectuon of Professor Ronald Lush the musnc depart ment of the Salem Academy has made great strndes thus year H IS a top notch musician and It IS to hum that we grve credit for the advancem nt made In our musnc department The Krngs Choralalre Chotr was formed at the begunnlng of the year and conslsts of 40 volces Slngnng to the Glory of Cvod IS the keynote of thus group Each feels that It IS a great pruvulege to sung under the able leadership of such a flne Chrlstlan man and splendid muslclan as Mr Lush The choir has given many concerts and was on tour for ten days In Washlngton and Brltlsh Columbia From this group of warblers originated several musical groups which are Kings Ambassadors Kings Carolers Kings Choralettes Kmgs Mrxed Four Kungs Men and Kungs Maldens These groups went out representing the school at churches and other organnza tlons The Kings Crusader Band IS another of the organizations that has helped to build up the music department The band has given several concerts and has played for school assemblles Good mornang frnends thus ns the Kings Crusader Broadcast brought to you each Monday Wednesday and Frlday by Salem Academy was the famullar phrase you heard If you dialed KOCO T490 on your raduo at 8 a m Professor Lush and Presldent Hovland have gnven much to make these broadcasts a success Varuous groups took part tn the slnglng and playing and Dr Hovland brought us very unspurnng messages at each broadcast The Sprung Music Festival was a spectacular event highlight mg the month of May It was glven on the hull among banks of lovely flowers with gurls In formal dress and boys In colorful sport clothes On May 27 at 3 oclock nn the afternoon the Junlor Hugh Trumpeteers played a fanfare to begun the afternoon s festlvlttes A a group of young people turned each page ot a huge memory book we saw pictures of the mustc groups performing Page after page was turned and after all had performed for the pleasure of those present an rnformal tum of refreshments wa enloyed The contests brought an several good ratrngs with Doris Jones and Wrnton Zlmm rman coming out on top wlth Ones nn voice ln both drstrlct and state contests The choir took a one and the band took a two In the d str ct contest The cholr rated a two In the state All nn all music has certamly been In the air here at he Academy It has been work for all but greatly onloyed O r' -r A . far' , ., ' I ' - . .
