COBPSMEN MAINTAIN SAIPAN'S HEALTH H division's main repsonsibility is to maintain the crew's health through treatment and prevention. The latter is achieved through daily sanitation inspections of messing and berthing and water samples tfor pollution and proper chemical balancel: monitoring hearing conservation and weight control programsg inspecting storesg checking sewage holding tanks where waste is treated before dumpingg and running the heat stress program. ln addition to their other duties, the corpsmen clean and maintain over eighty spaces. Among those spaces are four main operating rooms, a laboratory, a pharmacy, two x-ray rooms, a blood bank, medical supply storerooms, a physiotherapy room, and a sixty-nine bed ward which includes full intensive care facilities. Saipan has the capability of being quickly converted into u 369 bed hospital if needed which is larger than most small community hospitals. Saipan is the largest operational medical facility afloat on a warship! R' 89
