AIPAN has the largest and best-equipped Medical Department in the fleet. With four operating rooms, two x-ray rooms, a physical therapy facility, and 69 dedicated hospital beds. H Division is prepared to provide medical care to the ship's company, embarked troops, and non-combatant evacuees as required. The services provided range from treating the aches and pains of daily sick call to performing emergency surgery in response to severe injuries and lIIn1?l?g'Medical Department is also responsible for maintaining the overall health of the crew through aggressive preven- tive medicine techniques. These include sanitation inspections. immunizations, hearing conservation monitoring. physical examinations, and weight control evaluations. V g During the deployment the department was augmented by specialized teams of health professionals. These included Surgical Team Six from Naval Hospital Portsmouth, Virginia. and Surgical Support Team Thirteen from NGVBIQHOSEIIHI Millington, Tennessee tfirst halfl, and Surgical Team Four from Naval Hospital Bethesda. Maryland, and Surgical up- port Team Twelve from Naval Hospital Groton, Connecticut tsecond halfl.
