he mission of the Communications Department is to provide external command and control, record and ViSual communications support to Saipan and embarked staffs. Saipan has a unique computer controlled communica- tions sihstem which provides a ve formidable capability. Various medias and emissions are used, such as: High Frequency Q Fl, Very High Frequency WHS, Ultra High Frequencies iUHFl. Satellite, IVOICG, Teletype, Facsimile lpic. turesl, and high speed digital circuits to allow us to talk to virtually any DOD facility, anytime, any place inthe world. qcgolmmunications Department is made up of two divisions: Communications Signals QCSD and Communications Radio ivision. The Communications Department provides the vital ink between the ships in the task group, other task groups, task group commanders, landing forces and higher Echelon Commanders: such as Fleet Commanders, JCS and the Prggi. dent. During this cruise, t e radiomen processed over 87,000 incoming and 19,000 outgoing messages and the signalmen processed over 575 outgoing and 750 incoming messages.
