uring Northern WeddinglMarg 1-87, the Supply Department fulfilled its mission of providing service to the crew and embarked units in an outstanding manner. S-1 managed an inventory of .repairables and consumable material of over S35,000,000.00. coordinated over 1.000.000 pounds of fleet freight, was responsible for all port services including vehicle rental, husbanding requirements, harbor pilots, tugs. and wharfage. 5.2 signed the cruise by loading-over 153 tons of frozen foods, fresh fruits, and vegetables in less than 30 hours. Over 750,000 nutritious well balanced meals were prepared gaining a reputation of being A Feeder. ln this regard, over 530,000 eggs. 8,000 pounds of bacon, 67.000 gallons of mm., and 120,000 pounds of beef were fed to the crew. S-3 provided over 350,000.00 in contributions to the welfare and recreation program from sales in the ship's store and of over 15.000 cases of soda. S-3 processed over 120,000 pounds of laundry and gave over 13,000 haircuts. 5.4 brought and sold money from six different countries. Converting to and from Iire, pesetas. pounds. guilders. and francs beame second nature the DK'S. ws-5 had a reputation of being the Hilton of the High Seas. They provided outstanding hotel services to the officers. The meals served were con- sistently delicious, varied, well balanced and served in ample portions, yet the mess bill averaged 585.00 per month. S-8, The team of AK's and TAD Marines managed over S21,000,000.00 of aviation parts and executed a budget of over S3.000.000.00 in support of the embarked aviation squadron. S-6 was operated on a twenty four hour, seven days a week basis issuing material to the squadron and to AIMD. Despite an abnormal number of high priority requirements, S-6 accomplished it's mission in an outstanding manner. S-7 was the Behind the Scenes Nerve Center onboard SAIPAN. The DP6s operated the snap computer supporting the entire ship's inventory management, CSMP data files, printing checks, aviation 3-M, IMMS, Financial Management, and personnel data.
