F4 Captain J. W. Renard graduated from the United States Naval Academy and was commissioned an Ensign, U. S. Navy, in June 4955. Immediately following commissioning he served in the destroyer USS GEORGE K MACKENZIE QDD836j prior to attending Submarine School in January 4957 After Submanne School Captain Renard reported aboard USS HARDER 1555683 where he served until June 4964 He then attended the U S Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey California com pleting Weapons System Curriculum in June 4963 Following training at Guided Missile School Dam Neck Virginia Captain Renard served as Navigator and Operations Officer in the commissioning crew of USS TECUMSEH QSSBN-6281 until August 4966 when he reported to USS BONEFISH CSS582j as Executive Officer From April 4968 to March 4970 Captain Renard commanded USS BARBEL fSS580y CAPTAIN JOHN W.
