THE SCROLL o 9 CLORLY REFLEC THR 0 UGH THE OF LIFE ST.URSULA TIUNS... I , LUOKING GLASS AT. . . ACADEMY Our Bishop Although our Most Reverend Bishop has been with us only a year and a half, we have come to know and to revere him. We can often recognize his tall figure walking briskly from the Cathedral to his home on Parkwood Avenue after services or ecclesiastical business. He often stops to talk to the Academy girls, always impressing them with his very genuine fatherliness. Since his appointment to Toledo, Bishop Rehring has busied himself with the problems of the diocese. Manifesting an active interest in each one's difficulties, he has endeared himself to young and old alike. Carrying on the St. Ursula tradition, Bishop Rehring will present diplomas and a graduation address to the Senior Class. What more fitting climax to four years at St. Ursula Academy? Most Reverend George J. Rehring ur haplain Reverend Philip King, O.M.l. The same sincere smile that we have enjoyed during the past two school years again prevailed in our religion classes this year when Father Philip King returned as our spiritual advisor in September. Father King's enthusiastic and living devotion to Our Blessed Lady has never failed to impress us. He has proved an ever ready listener, always willing to spend an extra minute to offer o word of encouragement or needed advice. Father's appropriate sermons are sharply etched in our minds. Of special eloquence and inspiration were his talks tor the May Crowning, the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart, and the Legion of Mary Acies Ceremony. In him the students of St. Ursula Academy have not only a chaplain but also a true friend. ,, ,,,, .. .. pllupuuulq ,, The reflection of the Sacred Heart overshadows the daily life of every girl at Saint Ursula Academy. She greets Him as she passes Sacred Heart Court each morning. She pauses to kneel before her en- throned King in the main corridor. She finds His Real Presence in Sacred Heart Chapel. The Scroll mirrors a year in the life of an Ursuline girl. Because the Sacred Heart is an inte- gral part of that life, we dedicate this 'Scroll to Him. - Faculty Reverend Mother Vincent de Paul, M.S. 'A' Many a school night the faculty and anyone within seeing distance of the staff room could view the girls feverishly pounding away on the type- writers, cutting up pictures, drawing layouts, and in general collaborating their ideas into some semblance of order. This bustling activity went on for three months until the day the dummy was sent to the printers. ln the following months we learned the saying, Patience is a virtue, to be true. We sincerely hope that our classmates will enjoy and cherish the memories that we have endeavored to capture for them in the year '52 ln looking back the Scroll staff sees not only the finished product but a chain of joys, surprises, tribulations and rosaries that went into the make-up of this yearbook. The writing, editing, and publishing entailed on these pages are reflections of the knowledge we have ab- sorbed in our primary and secondary years of educa- tion. The senior class agrees that this yearbook has put the perfect touch to our tour years at St. Ursula's. We hope that any of our teachers glancing at this book will realize it is the culmination of their efforts for us. Lcff fo Righfz D. Michaclson N. Coghlin, M. L. Comes, D Helfrich, H. M. The story revealed the trials and tribula- tions ot one Snooze Andrews. He was supported by other principles, a spirited chorus, and a group of lively dancers. lt one had ventured back into the wings, he would have thought that a Broadway production had come to Toledo. Donning costumes, reading lines, scurrying to the make-up artists were but a tew ot the sights to be seen. Act II dI' r 4' ii'-a. s Above IeH to right: C. Anderson, M. Hurley, A. M. Hrycyk, C. The Orchestra . . . Peering into the music life of Saint Ursula's we find it greatly enhanced by the school orchestra Their fine melodies have given the final touch to all the big events of the year. This earnest group of musicians is supervised and directed by Sister Jeanne Marie. SUA. has a personal pride in its girls of harmony. The A Cappella Choir Gazing into the crystal ball we see a familiar group of girls standing before us. They are on stage, the Curtain has just risen. A signal is given and the auditorium swells with harmonious tones. Yes, an- other of the many performances of the A Cappella Choir under the able direction of Sister St. Mark has begun. 1 ci ,,,, s H' G l ,f I J 1 l l -tg il r it 'rv' S 1 IT ? .P 1' . Rubbing aside the frost and gazing into the windows of Urban Hall on December first, nineteen fifty-one, any passerby could see glistening snow flakes and little snow- men. In the center of the hall, atop the North Pole, two penguins surveyed the entire dance. The couples whirled to the music of Chuck Bialorul4i's orchestra. Several of the senior hostesses served punch to quench the thirst of the jitterbugs. The freshmen bravely participated in their introduction to the social life at Saint Ursula's. After the ball was over, they resolved that such activities would often form a share of their education. 76 Mg x fr is ,aff ng, u x Q 5? g .b rf I A :: x X f -Ny S x :S umlllxlllu-A .Win :sa am 4 X Q. Suppose you are postponing further academic learning and are going to work. Have you chosen your field of endeavor? Are you considering the places where you will look for work? Have you considered L-O-F? What do those letters mean? L stands for Libbey in the corporate name Libbey-Owens-Ford. But L in L-O-F also stands for Loyalty. The company recognizes this by annually paying honor to scores of people with more than 25 years of company service. O stands for Owens. But O in L-O-F also stands for Opportunity. There are many versions of opportunity in L-O-F. A former mailboy is a traffic executive, another is high on the ladder in the purchasing department. A former accountant has become an officer of the company. F stands for Ford. ln L-O-F, this letter also can stand for Friends because you have many friends when you work in L-O-F. It also can identify two of the company's products-flat glass and Fiber-Glass. N L LIBBEY' OWENS ' FORD 4'fM'fVwz.w2o GLASS IN Rossrono rr's . . .
