Each partition of Bishop Rehrings seal was chosen by him to signify the unity that should exist between the bishop and his episcopal see. Above the shield is the pontifical hat, with the episcopal symbols, the orosier, or pastoral staff, the cross, and the mitre beneath. The shield displays the insignia of both the diocese and of Bishop Rehring: the castle representing Toledo, Spain, after which our city was named, while the right side of the shield contains the plough, symbolical of Cincinnatus, early Roman hero after whom Cincinnati, Ohio, the Bishops birthplace, was named. The Moline cross is the Rehring family seal. 4

Coming to us from Cincinnati, Bishop Rehring brings to his office a learning, clevoteclness, antl zeal which have rnacle him reveretl and lovetl in the various capacities in which he has servecl. His career, which began with ordination in 1914, runs a witle gamut of experience in parish work, pro- fezsorship at Mount St. Marys Seminary, Cincinnati, assistant to the late Archbishop john T. McNicholas, aatl his present rank as Bishop of Toleclo. One of the most memorable excursions in the the itinerary of the Class of Wil was attendance in October at the installation of our new Bishop in Queen of the Holy Rosary Cathedral. lt seems most fitting, then, that we dedicate this 1951 logbook to our Chief Shepherd, from whose hancls at the June graduation we hope to receive ou.r passport to the future. 5
