Each partition of Bishop Rehrings seal was chosen by him to signify the unity that should exist between the bishop and his episcopal see. Above the shield is the pontifical hat, with the episcopal symbols, the orosier, or pastoral staff, the cross, and the mitre beneath. The shield displays the insignia of both the diocese and of Bishop Rehring: the castle representing Toledo, Spain, after which our city was named, while the right side of the shield contains the plough, symbolical of Cincinnatus, early Roman hero after whom Cincinnati, Ohio, the Bishops birthplace, was named. The Moline cross is the Rehring family seal. 4 Dedication Most Reverend George J. Rehring Biilwlh of Tffferfn As a mark of our sincere affection ancl esteem, we, the Senior Class of St. Ursula Acaclemy, respect- fully cleclicate this volume of the Scroll to the Most Reserencl George nl. Rehring, S.T.D., fourth Bishop of Toledo. Coming to us from Cincinnati, Bishop Rehring brings to his office a learning, clevoteclness, antl zeal which have rnacle him reveretl and lovetl in the various capacities in which he has servecl. His career, which began with ordination in 1914, runs a witle gamut of experience in parish work, pro- fezsorship at Mount St. Marys Seminary, Cincinnati, assistant to the late Archbishop john T. McNicholas, aatl his present rank as Bishop of Toleclo. One of the most memorable excursions in the the itinerary of the Class of Wil was attendance in October at the installation of our new Bishop in Queen of the Holy Rosary Cathedral. lt seems most fitting, then, that we dedicate this 1951 logbook to our Chief Shepherd, from whose hancls at the June graduation we hope to receive ou.r passport to the future. 5 Alma Mater St. U1'.mla'5, Sf. Lalizl i.,'. , f., , Reverend Philip King, o.M.1., B.A. Religion Rev. Philip King, O.M.I. For the second year we have been privileged in having, both as spiritual director and teacher of Christian Doctrine, Father King, a zealous son of Our Lady. To show his love for Our Lady, he has dedicated his entire life to her as her servant in the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Because he sees in Mary the perfect example of Christian womanhood, he is able to impart to us what we, the future Christian women, ought to be. Beginning with the celebration of opening Mass in early fall, Father King has served as an excel- lent guide on our road to happiness. With his explanations, thoughtful advice, patience, and under- standing, we were brought to a truer knowledge of our religion and also a truer and firmer love for it. We wish now to thank Father King, in a little way, for guiding us so carefully along the perilous path towards our eternal goal-heaven. 8 Um' Guides . . . Sister Mary Alice, B.S. Its able management included Ann Openlander, producer, Sue Cole, director, Pat Lynch, playwright, and Sue Brunner, manager of the Box Gffice. The juniors themselves composed the talented cast. In Act I, Scene l, we see the Juniors assuming their new dignity as upperclassmen. Scene 2 shows them lifting their voices in song as they try out for a cappela choir. Next we see them busily collect- ing and sorting for the Tax Stamp Drive in which they were the leaders. Act II opens with a scene of great pathos as the juniors wearily bum the midnight oil for exams. ln Scene 2, the true character of the class is revealed as they spiritedly sell tickets for the Missions Raffle and ring doorbells for Chronicle subscriptions. The last scene is one of true dramatic appeal as the juniors, and their guests, the Seniors, float across the floor of the XXfoman's Club ballroom in the arms of their Prince Charmings. As the curtain goes down on the last act, the juniors are filled with regret to think the play has ended, but look forward to the premiere of their new production, The Senior Class of 'i2 , with happy anticipation and firm determination to carry out the traditions of days gone by with another stellar performance. 0 Iimzlkfi Spetrkifzg 36 Carol Anderson ' Bonnie Angevine V 3 ',,, A A Carole Badger D V Mary Blanchard 1 .. On this day, these tliir ladies were hostesses to the whole Ursuline Castle. In charge were Sister Mary Patricia and the Sophomores, who inaugurated a centerpiece contest. Most Httingly, Freshman A,s representation of St. Ursula's visit to the Pope, with the castle made from candy and lumps of sugar and the figures dressed by the girls themselves, was awarded the coveted prize. Missions After much hustle and hustle the Mission Committee emerged more than a little satisfied from a successful sale of Christmas cards and seals. On Shrove Tuesday a benefit movie and raffle netted a grand total of almost four hundred dollars to swell the Academy mission coffers. The annual all-school carnival held in May brought the Missions program to a successful close.
