PATRICIA ANDERSON LEE ISERSON MARGARET DONOHUE One of the Young Christian Students groups first established in the United States is the unit here at Saint Mary's. Ramona Oppenheim, leader of this year's group, was also president of the Mission Club.A library of Catholic literature was collected from among the students' books, and assembled in a classroom for the use of the entire student body. Patricia, Lee, and Margaret, YCS members, offer their services as librarians. Perspective, the YCS publication, was changed this year from a mimeo sheet ' graphed to a printed fo , ur-page monthly. The enterprising editor of Saint Hlz11'y's Static, Mary Mudd, found guest lecturer Bruce Marshall an interesting subject for an interview. Mr. Mar- shall and Mary exchanged views on American schools, which Mr. Marshall praises highly. and the held of journalism, which Mary plans to enter. A behind-scenes glimpse of the Static staff reveals that each of the four pages is supervised by one of the editors. Assistant Editors Mary Rita Crowe and jane Ragen are filling in the blackboard dum- my prior to sending the paper to press. The Blue Pencil Club is a group of students inter- ested in creative writing. Patricia Curran, Zita Bierbusse, chairman, and Audrey Leonard are shown at one of the meetings in which members read and criticize their own work.

Ramona Oppenheim, the YCS leader, was also the President of the Mission Club. At right, Barbara Hepting, Ramona and Rosemary Mundi discuss Holy Cross mis- sionary work in India. A Saint Marys original is the Martin de Porres Scholarship Fund, inaugurated last year and put into operation for the first time in the Fall of 1949. Through the penny-a-day contribution of each stu- dent, all expenses are paid for one Negro student, who would not otherwise be able to attend Saint Mary's. Helen Preece is chairman of the committee, which includes Sarah Jane George. Elizabeth Barr and Martha Stack, pictured at right. Helene also presides over the Home Eco- nomics Club and supervises the activities of the Christ Child Society as Saint Marys. She and Anne Reynolds are shown below knitting their contributions to the Society.
