Togeth- er, we share seventy years of growth, tradition and fulfillment. Genera- tions before have experienced the same strong feelings that we share now. The spirit of Saint Mary's is as alive today as it was seventy years ago. We all share in it - students, faculty, par- ents, alumni, and friends. lt's a spirit that is not easily explained but easily felt. Seventy years of existence is some- thing in which we can take pride. Not many schools in Arizona can make that claim - especially one as small as Saint Mary's. Saint Mary's will always be a part of everyone who has walked through her doors. It has touched the lives of many people, and has left memories that will last and remain in our hearts forever. by Jennifer Castle Pg. 2 2. The Five Muskateers. 3. The primary function of the 1986-87 Student Council was to organize many activities and help keep school spirit high. Over the year, Student Council co- ordinated and organzed functions such as Homecoming, 8th Grade Day, and many of the dances. As a result of this, school spirit was increased. Overall the Student Coun- cil of 1986-87 did a good job at fulfill- ing its obligations to St. Mary's. By Mark Wetzel 1. David Silva takes a break from his class treasurer. 3. One of the most important goals was to extend its winning streak by taking the State Championship for a third consecutive year. The team members began at Mon- terrey Park in July with a good deal of physical conditioning. In August, the Senior Lettermen took the traditional cabin trip to the White Mountains, along with the coaches. Throughout the season the excellent coaching staff never let team members forget who they were and what it would take to be- come a championship team. Even though the main goal was not quite achieved, the team with help of the coaching staff had a great season and still has the feeling of being a class act group of players. by Gary Benites pg. 40 2. QSteve Beltran, Soccer This year saw the emergence of a winning season for the Soccer Team. An important in- gredient in their formula for success was the guidance of Coach Duah who turned around a team that had back to back losing seasons. He commended the players' optimism and desire and put their talents to use by making the team the best it could be. The Knights got off to a good start and played steadily all season long. Their final record was 7 wins, 4 losses, and 2 ties. Their league record was 3-2-1 including victories over Cortez, Glendale, and Washington. The Knights were in the running for a playoff berth until they lost the heartbreaking last game of the season to Thunderbird. Standout players this year were: Senior Mid- fielder, Jesse Flores, who was team captain, Randy Romo who finished second overall in scoring throughout Arizona, Seniors Brian Osbourne and Tony Hernandez who through the course of the season showed their leader- ship qualitiesp Senior Louie Schwall and Ju- nior PJ Celaya who led an extremely strong defense. Prom is an event where lifelong memories are created. These 'special mo-' ments that are spent together with friends will live in one's memory forever. The entire day is spent preparing and an- ticipating an evening of dining, dancing, and living it up. For some, Prom night seems just a dream that somehow comes to reality. This year's Prom was held at the Embassy Suites on May 9th, at 8:00 pm. The theme was Midnight Dreams and with the ball- room elegantly decorated in blue and sil- ver, it gave the Prom a dreamy atmosphere. But yet there is still that hesitant look that accompanies their feeling of happiness. These Seniors have just achieved a great ac- complishment: 4 years of hard work and de- termination. Now they are taking their first step onto whatever path lies ahead of them. Each will have new challenges and new ex- periencesg some with old friends, others with new. But there will always be that special bond between the friendships made during their years in high school. With the spiritual atmosphere and educational background- ob- tained at St.. Mary's, they will succeed. The night of graduation will always be a re- membrance in each Senior's heart as a KNIGHT OF TRIUMPH AND HONOR . . by Jeanine Lavin Rm . . . fri - Y b -i A QV '- lg ' . This El Caballero is meant to be much more than just a sequence of events. It recaptures the mood and the very spirit of the students who fill its pages. St. Mary's will always be a home away from home to many of the students and teachers. In this 1986-87 El Caballero, the yearbook staff strived to capture all of the special moments which this year gave to each of us. The El Caballero is a tribute to the students who have come and gone, and to those yet to come. For these are the people who make this school what it isp without them there would be no St. Mary's. To the staff goes my sincerest appreciation and thanks for their many hours of hard work in helping to publish this yearbook.
