Talk about a kink in the neck. But that is only part of the job of the Dean of Girls, Miss Mary Agnes Echenique. Her office is a necessary. but not an enviable one, and she fills it with a constancy and a general good humor that never fails. D-Q l DEAN OF BOYS Mr, Koenigs is not a pal or a buddy. He's a Dean. A Dean that is a pal is as mythical as a minotaur. But he'II try to help any boy that needs it. He only hurts when it helps. And he thinks that just a spark of good will is enough to work with. If the fans left the stands on Friday night with the shakes, it was understandable. Only two out of the ten games had the Knights com- fortably out in front all the way. And in one of those games, against Prescott the opposition put on an explosive spurt that sent a shiver through the green and white crowd. The team, however, was poised through it all and the coaches kept a cool head. Most of the scores were low. The Knights had trouble getting outside most of the time. The passing attack was usually a chancey thing. Mostly, it was a matter of grinding it out, up the center, and off tackle, picking up the first on the third, all the way to the goal line. The PAT was partically automatic and it saved the game several times. It most obviously did this in the extraordinary Apollo game. That game was played in a hurricane-literally. The belated weather report advised that a tail-end of a hurri- cane had swept over this area on that soggy Friday night. The game was on ApolIo's field. The wind-blown rain did not let up once during the game. Much of the field was under shoe-top water. Kicks went straight up and came down. The stands emptied by third quarter, but we took it in spite of all. The nail biting continued right down to the last game. The Knights went into the Brophy game with 8 and 1. Brophy won in a hard fought game and went on to Division playoffs. All in all, it was a good season, and a trophy in the case of Sky- line Coach of the Year, Pat Lavin. The Knight of the Year award was instituted to point out such a student, one who exemplifies the goals of a Saint Mary's ed- ucation. This year Steve Custer was named Knight of the Year. The title Lady has a history that stretches way back to when knighthood was in flower. It has implied many things-all goody things like refinement, mag- naminity, sensitivity. Today it would be another way of say- ing, She's nice! This year Agnes Kevane received the Mother Brunner Award. She is the Saint Mary's Lady of the Year. 183 Valedictorian Agnes Kevane Agnes Kevane, having main- tained the highest grade av- erage all four years at St. Mary's is the Valedictorian of the Class of '73. Agnes has been a cheer- leader since freshman year and was the captain of this year's squad. She was also a member ofthe Student Council this year.
