The radiance of his wisdom has at many times broken through the dark overcast of trouble like the sun through a tempest to give guidance to many students. As the following pages of this annual try to reflect an ideal school, so it is backed by an ideal moderator and student counsellor, Father Gage. The memory of his un- derstanding and constant labor will linger on into the rem- iniscenee of our future years. The Senior Class wishes to ex- tend its sincere appreciation to Father Gage for the innumer- able accomplishments that he has carried out, both for us and for the school. May his example be esteemed and imitated now and in the future by the Seniors, and by the Regis ol' To- l'fl0l'Y'0W. We are attempting to show that Regis of Tomorrow with the modernistic buildings on the index pages. There is no doubt that it can't help but be a tremendous success. When- ever such manifestations of support, of zeal, and of arder are shown by such an affable priest at Father Gage, no one can resist so powerful a temptation of falling in line and following a great leader like Father Gage and attain his goal. To all those that know him personally and in spirit, Father Gage is definitely an ideal. We are all looking forward to his return. rw Ulu. President of Regis College and High School VERY REV. Individuals and nations are disturbed about the present and anxious for the future. They are asking themselves Can our problems be solved in such a way that we can have lasting peace and security? The answer to that question is yes, but the methods employed must be adequate. The real struggle in the world today is not between forms of government, between dictatorship and democracy. The conflict is much more fundamentalg it is between religion and godlessness, between paganism and Christianity. The only force that can save the world from communism is the love of God. There can be no abiding peace unless Christ is brought back into His world. In restoring Him to His people men who have had the benefits of a Catholic education must play a leading part. Among them must be Regis graduates. You have learned Christian principles but the intellectual acceptance of them is not enough, you must live by those principles and bring them to the knowledge and the respect of others. You will do that by living always as Catholic gentlemen no matter what particular forms your individual careers may take. Be true to that vocation. Be happy to be known as Cath- olics. Be proud to be considered different from those who have not had your training. As the Regis Faculty bids you farewell it wishes you every worthy success. Real success in life consists in saving one's own soul and in helping others to save theirs. You will ac- complish both these ends if you remain true to the ideals and principles which you have learned in your Catholic homes and here at Regis. May God give you the character and the vision to live always by that high ambition. rwlaef W . fffrwrnfbly, BARRETT, JAMES ENGLISH DIPLOMA Sodnllty l. 2. 33 N.F.l.. 2. 3 4: Orrlu-sun I: Bowling 3. 4, lln'l:r'tl1:-ill: lntl:InIIIInl I, 2, 3 4 ALBI, JOSEPH R. The Sodality Student Council, holding its weekly meetings at 8:30 on Friday, took up the greater part of its time discussing and explaining various school regulations. Several school dances were sponsored and promoted by the council and plans were made to conduct a mid-year assembly in the gymnasium. Due to extended cold weather, however, the assembly was postponed until March 8. A suggestion box was conveniently placed for the use of the studentsg each Friday a council committee met with the reverend Father Principal to discuss suggestions and student problems. In February a telegram was composed and sent to President Truman urging him to protest formally to the Security Council of the United Nations the sentence of the Hungarian courts against Cardinal Mindzentyg and at Christmas this year a collection of toys and clothing was conducted for the aid of the Indian Mission in South Dakota. Finally, during May, the council took up a collection to defray expenses for flowers for the Blessed Virgin's Altar in the new student Chapel. Not forgetting their moderator of last year, Fr. Aloysius Gage, who has this year followed their activities from a sick bed in St. Joseph's Hospital, the council at Christmas and at Easter forwarded to him a spiritual bouquet gathered from the entire student body. Much of the activity in the Student Council was unseen and unheard but their accomplishments speak for themselves. r Senior Sodaliry Sealed: Ihrer, F.g Hanifen, Hg Havorka, G.p Brown, C Stllllllillgl McDonald, J.1 lieieliert, 'I'.g Fr. Many authoritative speakers holding prestige in Denver spoke on the difficulties involved in putting out :L paper. lleprezsenting Regis were QUOTH THE RAVEN .NEVERMORE The hustling and inspired Raider News Staff composed in the main of bright young Juniors decided this year that the little Raven was inconsequential and nefari- ous ito quote a fiery member of the staffi. A raven is merely a black bird who fails to command any respect even among his fellow birds. The word 'Raven' represents nothing that is good or noble about the institution. As a result of all these proven facts, the staff exer- cising their inalienable rights, changed the paper's name to Raid- er News. Supporting this choice, the staff offers the facts that: 1, The title has great import and effect in the papers influence. 2. A new acquaintance to the paper retains a lasting impression Blll Burch, Tim May, John O'Hara, John Ergir, Frank Barone, and Ray Dillon. In the speech field the N.F.L. of Regis was reasonably successful. llanifen, Carlin, and McFadden were the main reason that Regis took second. AIJOCIZITE Effzrorf J, O llarzi T. May XV. Burch Ol from the paper's title. 3. The name Raider News contains these above factors and therefore was desirable. The staff realizes that there were many raised eyebrows among the not-too-common gentry who read this publication. However, they are always benevolent to all complaints. They believe that the noble readers like the now es- tablished name or they would hear cries of rebellion among the circu- lation. Therefore, they will leave the name as is next year. The Moderator Tm.. X 'V 4 t. . ' , . I L ' 1 E. H. Hedges, S.J. RAIDERS ON THE WARPATH This year marks the beginning of an era of terrific school spirit. What's the cause of this increase in team spirit? It's the Pep Club. This year we know something must be done to get us out of the dumps, so the cheer leaders of the school, the leaders who really wanted our school to be something, got together with Mr. Hidges and formed the Pep Club. It's a swell organization that we've needed for a long time. Now that it's here, let's build it up until we have the best school spirit in Denvi r.
