With Mark Fleischmann, .lim McMahon, Da- vid Ceizyk, Brad Foust, David Kohlbacher and help from some good substitutes, the J. V. team ended with a great winning sea- son. The Freshmen team lead by a strong starting six, was com- posed of Marc Fleetwood, Brad Chilcote, Greg Schuette, Todd George, Mark Mariani, and Chris Perrin. The team did an out- standing job of living up to the high standards Sahuaro has set in the past, Coach Vielledent said their goals this year were to have fun, to be fundamentally sound, and to be the best fresh- men in town.

Bw All photos by D. Runkle ' 1 1 Cougar Cagers et me ask you a question. Do you think that you could go up and down a court jumping, running. shooting, and dribbling for about an hour? This type of activity puts a lot of strain on a basketball play- er. You have to be in top physical condition. Pre-season training con- sisted of long mileage loops to build up their endurance. Once the season started the team began working on fundamental skills such as passing, shooting, and dribbling. Then the practices be- came more indepth when they be- v shoot for two. gan working on strategic plays. The basketball team practiced an average of about three hours a day. This year's team was considered rather young with only two senior starters on the squad, The cougar cagers were also considered small compared to past year's teams. Standouts on the team were sen- iors Steve McGann and Louis Schuette and Junior Rodney Peete. Other top players were Senior Shel- don Thomas, Junior Eric Aurand and Sophomore Victor Roberts.
