The right tame of mind. 9 9 t is the most humbling sport there isp it takes a lot of guts to walk out in front of that crowd says Coach Pierson. He also adds that it also takes hours of work and dedication. The freshmen and .L V. teams did not lack any of these qualities as they worked out six days a week. In addition to their workouts, which averaged 2 M hours, the wrestlers must also be mentally prepared for competition. They must see themselves suc- cessfuL Coach Pierson believes. '3elf Confidence is so important in this sport. The attitude has to be tough be- cause the sport is such a tough one. One of the reasons this sport is so difficult is that it is the only SPOR TS one in high school competition where it is always one-on-one con- tact. lt is up to you, and no one else is there when things are getting tough. Some of the qualities that coaches Pierson and Pricket look for in these wrestlers are dedication, a willingness to work, and most im- portant in Coach Piersons eyes, a desire to succeed. 'Mthletic ability is not always a major factor, it is the courage and the desire that in the end determines the winners. Some of the outstanding freshmen and .LV. wrestlers that possesed these qualities were .limmy Grantham, Thad Furguson, Bobby Bujarski, and Rich Dorian. All photos by, Brett if-f1 ... .-,.. ...,.. I.
