Honor Society serves community their school or the surrounding community. he National Honor Society is a national organization which recognizes the outstand- ing academic achievements of high school sophomores. juniors. and seniors. One of the biggest ways in which the Honor Society serves the en- tire community is through their blood drives. The Honor Society sponsors blood drives by the American Red Cross twice a year. The members pro vide student hehr. and try to interest other Sahuaro students into donating their life- saving blood to the Red Cross. The Honor Society's blood drives makes donating blood easy and convenient for faculty and stu- dents who might otherwise not take the time. The Honor Society participated in student exchanges in which they visited other high schools and hosted members from those schools at Sahuaro. A major activity of the Sahuaro Honor Society was hosting a con- ference of the high school Honor Society members from across Southern Arizona. Members from all over the state gathered at Sa- huaro in February to exchange ideas and meet other members. The adviser, Mrs. Sue Peters. said she enjoyed being involved with this group. It was rewarding and interesting for her to meet and get to know the kids, and watch their development through their high school years. The members of the National Hon- or Society came away with growth in their leadership abilities and a feeling of accomplishment gained from their service of others. Pep squad is a boost of energy. romoting school spirit with en- ergy and enthusiasm is hard ork, but our pep squad did just hat this yearl The pep squad orked as a wonderful support group for athletic activities. With their interjecting cheers they got everyone involved. All of Sahuaro's pep squad had secret brothers. It helped the pep squad and the athletes keep a unit- ed identity. They also had secret sisters among themselves, which was lots of fun. Mrs. Handler, in charge of Sa- huaro's pep squad, enjoyed work- ing with the girls. She liked listen- ing to them and thought they were good sincere people. It also made her realize how important sports are for high school students. Songleaders, Varsity and Jr. Varsi- ty Cheerleaders put in alot of work, hard effort, and time which was very tiring, but I 'm sure they all feel it was very much worth it.
