' rOi i Junior W ss Winner of Montebello ' s Junior Miss Contest, Mayro Rodriguez and her fother. junior miss The Junior Miss Pageant is organized by the Montebello Jay Cees, a group of young businessmen. Girls from Schurr, Montebello, and SHM High Schools are invited to partici- pate. This year, Maria Cordero, Sheila Flavin, Idalia Luna, and Mayra Rodriguez represented our school. The girls are interviewed privately by the judges and sub- mit transcripts and autobiographies. After two weeks of rehearsals, the Pageant itself seems just a short night of ten- sion and excitement. There are three portions to the final presentation: poise and appearance, talent, and physical fit- ness. Sheila took first place in the Talent Category, as did Mayra in the Scholastic category. Mayra also brought SHM the honor of being named Junior Miss of Montebello for 1974. Sheila Flovin, winner of the talent portion of the show, singing a medley from the Sound of Music. ' Mario Cordero recites her own composition which she presented in three languages. Idalia Luna participating in the physical fitness portion of the contest. 116
