miss valentine 1974 In an effort to stimulate spirit at SHM, the Senior Class convinced the administration that choosing o Miss Valentine would help. The idea was to find girls who got involved in the different activities around the school. Eleven semi-finalists: Nan Moldonado, Terry Lopez, Lisa Dyvig, Cecilia Diaz- Infante, Terri Riley, Raquel Legaspi, Mary Ann Garcia, Pat Mall, Sandy Montoya, Marie Solorzano, and Cynthia Machuca were selected by their respective homerooms. As the festivities commenced. Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Zim- merman introduced the eleven girls to the audience, who were also favored with a special appearance by Vicki Star, and the presence of June Loveheort. As the judges deliber- ated, the faculty performed as a Kazoo Chorus while Mr. Zimmerman sang Washington at Valley Forge. They were followed by the Senior Class ' own Sweetheart Dancers who hotfooted it to Alley Cat. A faculty skit developed by Betty Herman and Dorene Wagner, portraying a typical day at SHM, was next. The judges finally reached their decision, and the four finalists were introduced to the multitude. They were: Raquel Legaspi, Sandy Montoya, Terri Riley, and Marie Solorzano. While the judges wrestled with their deci- sion, Mr. Zimmerman, supported by Lolani and her Wacky Woo ' s, seranaded the finalists with that tender love song from the islands, Ukelele Lady. After this, the judges rejected any furtuneful enterprises, and presented Mr. Zim- merman with the name of the winner. Marie Solorzano was chosen Queen, and took her walk down the runway of honor, while photographers popped her picture and the school tumultuously applauded the Queen.
