Florence Nightingale Pledge I solemnly pledge myself before God and in the presence of this assembly to pass my life in purity and to practice my profession faithfully. I will abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischiveous, and will not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug. I will do all in my power to elevate the stand- ard ofmy profession, and will hold in confidence all personal matters committed to my keeping, and all family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my calling. With loyalty will I endeavor to aid the physician in his work and devote myself to the welfare of those committed to my care. Carmen Sylvo Carmen Sylva, the title of our yearly editorial tribute to our Alma Mater, is issued in memory of Queen Elizabeth of Rumania. She is best known perhaps, by her pen name, Carmen Sylva. The daughter of Prince l-Iermann of Wied Newwied and Maria of Nassau was born in 1843. Her marriage to Prince Charles of Rumania took place in 1869. She gave birth to one child, a daughter who died in 1874. In the war of 1877-1878, Carmen Sylva, filled with untiring zeal, endeared herself to the Rumanian people by her faithful devotion to the wounded soldiers. The later years of her life she spent diligently fostering the national women's industry. The noble beloved Queen died March 2, 1916, after an extensive American tour which won for her the hearts ofa large host of friends, and evoked from the graduating class of the Sacred Heart Hospital a desire to perpetuate her memory in the annual Class Book. fighly thru'
