Groduofe Nurses of 1951 You have read of the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution of 1789- 1791, when the diabolism of Rousseau and Voltaire conceived and propagated a phil- osophy Which precipitated multitudes of innocent people into the Blood Bath of Robespierre. The truth of this historical episode is, that more innocent persons than guilty ones suffered. If the evil ones had been punished, the world would have corrected itself to a perfect adjustment, however, oftimes under the pretense of the commonweal, evil survived, and virtue and truth were drowned in the incarnadine cesspool of the guillotine. Today we live in the Reign of Terror of our present World Revolution of 1950- 1951, when the political economy of Marx and Engels plunges daily helpless and innocent millions of people into the Blood Bath of Stalin! Ir seems so inconsistent that after all these years of advanced civilization and scientific discoveries, that we should experience the pangs of a new pagan persecution. We cannot understand why Good Citizenship and Religion should be accused of default in Human Relations. Let us not be stupified by the Sophistry of the Lie which as an ethical principle of Hitler, Mussoliiii and Stalin has brought so much havoc to our era of civilization. Confusion, alarm, doubt and lack of Faith in God are often the result of the torrential rains of errorv which have bogged down our Beliefin the Dignity of Man! However, from the ramparts of God's eternal Truth, we see the Beacon Light of Faith which will lead us into the harbor of temporal and eternal peace. Graduate Nurses! You dare not lose confidence in the fundamental truths which were taught to you during your three years of intensive training for the Nursing Pro- fession! You were trained to render aid to suffering humanity, because you know that Man is God's Masterpiece! The dignity of Man inspires you to bend your knees to the dust of Lifels travel-worn road and to uplift suffering and dying persons whom the cold-steel and mechanized forces of Soviet Communism have passed by as useless. You have gathered up the fragments of broken hearts and lacerated souls and you have placed them upon the altar of their Creator near to the Sacred Heart of-lesusl Never be affected by the passing blight or plague of defective thinking and pagan belief. No Soviet Peace will ever satisfy the Graduate Nurse of the Sacred Heart Hospital! You want and need God in order to live a happy and worthy life as a Pro- fessional Nurse! Remember the principles of your Apologetics, your Code of Ethics, your beneficent Psychology and your Scientific Knowledge acquired in all the depart- ments of Nursing. While many crest-fallen hearts and souls have sunk to the depths of this present World Revolution, let your banner and escutcheon ever bear the motto of your Class- EXCELS1OR which means that you are determined to rise to the higher and better things of Life until you reach the resplendent Tabor of your joyful transfiguration in eternity! Upon this occasion of the 25th anniversary of my humble association with the Sacred Heart Hospital, 1 extend to you, one and all, the sincere gratitude of an aging veteran who has not forgotten your abiding loyalty, sacrifice and service.
