55 Sacred Heart Garmen Sylvatlf' tri! :farewell Dear Classmates: i Here we stand at the dawn of our Graduation Day. We have looked forward to this day with pleasure, exultation and sorrow. Hope and fear fill our hearts. It is an utter impossibility to remain cold and apathetic towards the thoughts which our graduation evokes in us. For the past three years this Training School has been a harbor of safety for us. Thus far we have been guided, piloted and tutored by kind and solicitous friends-our good Sisters and esteemed Doctors. We are about to leave the harbor and shall stand alone facing the world, answering its calls and undertaking grave responsibilities. Who will deny that storms will be encountered--storms that probably will make the waves and billows surge high above our frail vessels? Battles on the high seas of life must be fought, and it is obvious that victories can be won only by faithful adher- ence to duty and to the precepts laid down for us by our Alma Mater. During our training there has been placed before us admirable lessons in the sacrihce of self-lessons which illustrate our school motto- For God and Country. Our instructors have tried to make it clear to us that this must be, and shall ever remain, our motive. The time has now come when we are about to put these instructions and advices into effect. As we leave the safe harbor, we must pilot our own ship aright on the high seas of our profession. It is very important that we keep our masthead light shining and our tow rope strong, but above all, we must not neglect the important lights of love and kindness. To do all we can, as well as we can, with the highest and purest motive, is the true spirit of a nurse and a living embodiment of: For God and Country. 61
