They had convictions and values that forced them to no longer remain silent. They had to pattern their lives and actions to their thoughts and not be afraid of their visions. Our dreams today are the same as those of our forefathers, for we still have far to go to make them a reality. As Thomas Paine said, Every age and generation must be as free to act for itself, in all cases, as the ages and generations which preceded it. Freedom is basically what our celebra¬ tion of the Bicentennial is all about. But what is freedom? Freedom is the in¬ tangible force abiding in men that arouses their minds to seek a new life-a new be¬ ginning. Freedom is a time, a place, a person, anything that transmits an air of liberty or a drive to find this so-called liberty. Freedom is a universal chronicle c onsisting of pasts, presents and the all- unpredictable future. Last, but by all standards not at all least in any way, free¬ dom is the strength by which all men on this, our earth, will unite and work together for the common cause of peace without the worry of putdowns and uncon- structive criticisms. And everything that has and will happen to me is in a special plan for me. I often wonder why things happen the way they do But perhaps I should accept it as the will of God, for it is to he so. God made me because He loved me and He made a special role for me in this life. So why should I question my Creator? Why? Prudy Nadeau April, 1976
