ggJySt is time to begin our tapestry. It is time to dream of our design. A pattern we will not tire of; One filled with intricate challenge. We must grade the silver of our needles and check the strength of our yarn. Our hands must be steady and eyes clear. QBjjith our pattern on our lap, tools at our side, and anticipation in our hearts we begin. As the needle, sharp with force and brightness, is directed on its piercing way, it leaves behind only a taste of a picture that we must be determined to complete. jays pass like minutes and years like moments. Our needle is dull and the eyes strain to focus. The hand shakes with the final movements as we complete this textile of reality. Some will have before them a tapestry of the finest texture and a whirl wind of hues. Yet for others their finished work will be monotonous, lacking depth, hanging limp against the wall. HOI say No”, to those who blindly blame failure on a weakened scan of yarn or broken needles. I have hope for the artist who is aware that failure is due to a spiritless soul. One lacking, perhaps, in faith and love towards God, man and himself. And I offer thanks to those who return, for to begin, we are craftsmen of a tapestry, creators of a life. uou ’(je got to gst uji zvz’iij morning a ±niL. u on uom jc ilCd and ±fioiv tfiz vjoxtdL a[[ tfiz. Learn to accept in silence the minor aggravations, cultivate the gift of taciturnity and consume your own smoke with an extra draught of hard work. So that those about you may not be annoyed with the dust and soot of your complaints. Sir William Osier Once in his life a man ought to concen¬ trate upon the remembered earth- give himself up to a particular landscape and see it from as many angles as he can. He ought to imagine that he touihes it with his hands at every season and listens to its sounds. He ought to imagine the creatures there, the motions of the wind, the glare of the moon, and the colors at dawn and dusk. Yes, I thought, now see the earth as it really is; never again will I see things as I saw them yesterday or the day before. Helen Bourne I believe that man will not merely endure; he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance. William Faulkner Fortune knocks at every man ' s door once in a life, but in a good many cases the man is in a neighboring saloon and does not hear her. Mark Twain Comedy is the last refuge of the non-conformist mind. To live is the rarest thiijg in the world Most people exist, that is all. Art is not to be looked at art is looking at us What is art to others is not necessarily art to me nor for the same reason and vice versa Thus art is not an object but experience To be able to perceive it we need to be receptive Therefore art is there Where art seizes us Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm. Ralph Waldo Emerson Live as if you expected to live a hundred years but might die to-morrow. Stephen Butler Leacock if you can.. . just for a moment.. . remember in your life when the glow of joy was so bright that it seemed as if time stood still- than that joy will blind you forever. To be a friend one should go more than halfway with his fellow men; he should greet others first and not wait to be greeted; he should radiate a spirit of overflowing good will. I keep my ideals, because in spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart. Anne Frank To express one ' s essence: one ' s dreams, one ' s hopes, one ' s inner being Is to reveal the magical quality, the mystical aspect of one ' s uniqueness A task requiring honesty, bravery; An overwhelming desire to touch the hearts of others. A life stretches outward; a pattern must be woven, the pieces of the puzzle must be matched But I cannot find the path in this fog of confusion. . . I cannot begin to weave without the yarn in my hands.. . I cannot join the uneven edges to form a smooth picture. The wish to radiate the sunshine: of variety, spontaneity, openness To the slumbering mind of the world. I wish to gain the capacity to care, to give, to love freely but wisely looking forward to life with a hesitant expectancy.. . (i am) T.G. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Lao-Tse v. .5 Sleep not when others speak sit not when others stand, speak not when you should hold your peace, walk not when others stop. George Washington Love, devotion and surrender Love is mighty, devotion is mightier, surrender is mightiest. . . To serve and never be tired is love. To learn and never be filled is devotion. To offer and never end is surrender Love is man ' s reality. Devotion is man ' s divinity. Surrender is man ' s immortality. Reality is all-pervading. Divinity is all-elevating. Immortality is all-fulfilling. Love, devotion and surrender. George Webster Douglas We should make ourselves indifferent to all created things, in so far as it is left to the liberty of our will to do so, and is not forbidden; in such sort that we do not for our part wish for health rather than sickness, for wealth rather than poverty, for honor rather than dishonor, for a long life rather than a short one; and so in all things desiring and choosing only those which most lead us to the end for which we were created.
