Irenaea Already when Sacred Heart was but a dream, Sister Irenaea began her dedicated service in its erection, development, and progress. Sister ' s vision, sacrifice and love brought forth the beauty, design, and grace in our beloved school. Though frequently weighed down with budgeting and balancing, Sister is never too preoccupied for a pleasant hesitation to make each of us feel so much a part of our alma mater. Truly altruism is the keynote of her devotion. Sister Irenaea will be with us always in our grateful and loving memories of Sacred Heart. SISTER PAUL MARIE Sister Paul Marie has served as our guiding beam across the sea of high school years. In tempest and tranquility she has kept us bouyant. As our principal, Sister ' s leadership has been an inspiration to each of us. As our instructor she has provoked the blossoming of many buds of academic awareness. Selflessness and devotion to the full development of American youth are Sister ' s hallmarks. We shall always endear Sister ' s memory because as our teacher she excels, as our principal she is superlative, and as our friend, unequalled. 6 SISTER NOEL Sister Noel, in our estimation, is the busiest person on God ' s earth. Her position as senior home-room teacher is complemented by a host of other duties and a weighty schedule of studies. It was Sister who grounded us in the rudiments of English and gave us our boot training in vocab¬ ulary. We are always awed by organization and order which dominate her service. The endless hours Sister poured into this yearbook vividly acclaim her unrelenting sacrifice. Her warm smile and effervescent spirit will be sorely missed by each of us. Sister M. Noel SISTER IDA MARY Sister Ida Mary is an authority on everything from Eienstein to ectoplasm. A storehouse of scientific sagacity, Sister has tugged us over the threshold into the deep hallways of learning. And despite her heavy schedule, she has never failed to pause when advice or assistance was sought. Sister ' s dedication to our welfare has been witnessed incessantly and we shall never be able to recompense her for all the good done in our behalf. Sister Ida Mary SISTER NIVARD Sister Nivard ' s dedication to that which elevates man serves as an inspiration to us all. Gifted in the engendering of beautiful music and art, Sister has munificently shared her talents with our class. Under Sister Nivard ' s capable dir¬ ection and teaching, the band, the orchestra, and the well-known string group have frequently performed with distinction of which Sacred Heart is justly proud. Whether participating actively in or joining the audience of S.H.S. musical programs, each senior leaves his Alma Mater with a richer and fuller life. Sister M. Nivard 7 SISTER BERNARD MARY X + Y = patience in Sister Bernard Mary with inspiration as a coefficient. As head of the Math Department in Sacred Heart, Sister has opened to us the portals of the numerical laby¬ rinth. In our junior year she tutored us in the position of upper classmen. Her diligence in the nurturing and promotion of Our Lady of Divine Providence Sodality will long be appre¬ ciated. Swift in stride and deep in devotion, Sister will be our friend forever. Sister Bernard Mary SISTER JOHNETTE Sister Johnette will never be obscured in the hallowed memories of the Class of ' 62. Under Sister ' s direction new ideas and discussions emerged in the Social Studies Club to make us better citizens. Long, laborious hours in the library reflect her s heer devotion to Sacred Heart ' s students. Our appreciation for litera¬ ture was nourished under Sister ' s patience and friendly persuasion. The lofty ideals for which Sister Johnette gave us the starting signal will remain with us through the years. Sister M. Johnette SISTER GERTRUDE Quo vadis ? If lost in the battles of the Trojan War, all pathways lead to Sister Gertrude. Every member of our class has at some time been the recipient of her kindly assistance and encouragement. Sister is as wealthy in knowl¬ edge as she is generous in its distribution. So much a part of Sacred Heart, Sister ' s memory will remain hallowed in our hearts. Sister M. Gertrude 8 SISTER HELEN JOSEPH Sister Helen Joseph ' s strive for perfection dom¬ inates her altruism and serves as an encourage¬ ment to our short-comings. Typing and secre¬ tarial skills have been developed under Sister ' s keen and concerned eye throughout our high school years. Interest in our personality growth was always her major objective. The pinnacle of precision, Sister will be remembered with an apostrophe-back-space-period by the Class of ' 62. SISTER ROSALIE Sister Rosalie is a friend to every member of our class. An artist of song and patience, she has fostered the flowering of our vocal potential Also, Sister has rooted us in the rudiments of flowing French. The love and loyalty that she has given us will never be fully realized until eternity. With a song in our hearts we shall always remember Sister Rosalie. SISTER MARY CECILE From Pompey to conjugations Sister Mary Cecile has amiably introduced us to the realm of Latin. She bore our linguistic frustrations as nobly as our freshman frivolity. Always available when assistance was sought, Sister helped launch us in the newness of Sodality. Her untiring efforts have opened up many new avenues of learning which we treasure along with her memory. MR. GIL O ' NEILL Mr. Gil O ' Neill joined the faculty in September 1961, as a mathematics instructor and head of the athletic department. In both areas he has scored high in our estimation and his excellent work and adherence to principles serve as an inspiration to each of us. In addition to inten¬ sifying our physical fitness program, Mr. O ' Neill has fostered the full development of the moral, intellectual, social, and spiritual char¬ acter, befitting a graduate of Sacred Heart. Below: Sister Cora Mae, Grade six; Sister Hilda Marie, Grade five Left: Sister Cosma Sister Marilyn Right: Grade eight teachers. Sister Georgette and Sister Mary Below: Grade seven teachers, Sister John Francis and Sister Martin Light: ister Leon ister Danella As dark night steals upon my youth, I turn back to the dawn; And to the day that it gave breath, Nearly gone. As daybreak swathes the new-born hour, My mother warmed her child; And like a birdsong thrills the air, My father smiled. Like rain -hat softly nurtures earth, They bathed me in that hour With urge and love and laugh and tear, A gentle shower. And when the beating mid-day sun Flung its scorch across the sky, They hovered me in cool retreat Where flickers shy. Then when it began to sink, They led me out with love whereon When twilight spilled the dimming sky They tarried on. And now as awesome shadows fall And gnawing night breaks through, I plunge alone into the dark, My path revealed by that one spark Which trips through air from that one star That they have hung in God ' s broad sky Then stand afar. Joseph Moore ' 62 JAREY LEE ADAMS Marshfield Jarey Lee is personality personified. Order and responsibility are her distinguishing char¬ acteristics. Nursing is Sybil ' s goal and she is bound to attain it if only she bears in mind that hos¬ pitals are situated in a Quiet Zone. 13 CARALEE CHENEY Marion Caralee entered our class in her sophomore year. Her benign personality and superior scholastic rating soon proved compatible to the statutes of Sacred Heart. A pleasing smile and a reserved air encircle this beaming red-head. Smart taste and select apparel have favored her with a tres chic appear¬ ance. A mariner at heart she spends her summers in the ruffled ocean air by Marion Harbor. Stalwartly, Caralee has never suc¬ cumbed to the perplexities of the pecuniary and has served as s-enior year treasurer in a truly executive fashion. College is her immi¬ nent challenge. Caralee Cheney JOSEPH JAMES CASEY Middleboro Joe is distinguished by a semi-circular trademark, his smile. He is an eager advo¬ cate of the culinary arts and of hockey. The perplexities of diplomacy which confront the harassed world have often been doctored by Joe in social studies classes throughout his high school career. Apathy dares not thrust its malignancy on this Democrat. His pas¬ time is matriculating his hallowed vehicle through highways and byways, and his hobby is the study of said parasite. The establishment of the Ways and Means Committee owes itself to his unceasing efforts. We are confident that his lofty ideals shall materialize in college and shall overshadow him through his entire life. SANDRA ANNE CALLIS Scituate Sandy, often referred to as Dee, is as capable as she is cordial. Her cryptic talent is step¬ ping in holes and her pastime is pasting in the family album. The perkness of some teasing girls in school is his prime peeve--the embryo of an inveterate bachelor. With the spunk and spirit this boy possesses, we swing our hopes along with the U.S.A. in future Olympic meets.
