l1I5l I944 Varslty Basketball Team C Chd 9 MlWkl A BASKETBALL With several flrst strmg players from last year s team the Sacramento bas ketball team yourney through a hnqhly successful season In the flrst few games of the year the Dragons defeated Folsom txuce Then for the fnrst tnme nn twenty seven years the team beat Stockton 32 29 Wlth the victory over Stockton stnll rlngmg rn their ears the Dragon fxve defeated the Valleyo team 28 25 Thls game wlth Vallejo had a great sngnlfncance because Valleyo was the champ on of the Bay Area In the last pract1ce game Stockton xnfhcted the fnrst defeat on our team by a 31 20 score Begmnmg the fxrst ser1es of league games the Dragons defeated Placer 34 20 Grant 30 28 Woodland 37 31 and McClatchy 33 26 In the second ser1es of league games the team met a few dlffxcultxes After we defeated Placer 37 32 and Woodland 34 21 Grant showed surprnsmg strength and secured a 35 to 26 vrctory Then McClatchv seemed to out do themselves and handed the Dragons a 51 to 32 defeat Thls defeat gave McClatchy a txe for the flrst place wxth Sacramento In the play off game our team could not keep pace wlth the Llons and lost 34 20 Although the Dragons dxd not wnn the Cham pronshrp they made a fme shovung The games brought out many outstand 1ng players The ones deserving the most praxse are ake Hader Dexter Lmck and Glenn Mlllage all of whom played outstandxng games a Top row: lleft to rightl oach Pop Brorsen, Bob a wick, Merle Doucl.
