I 6 6 6 1 fi il ledge, so he just said that he didnt take no stock in school , and never went Mark Twain s pen is like a magic wand, for those who gaze upon its works are brought into subjection. I am very fond of his selection of words, unpolished and backwoodsy though they are, for there is an inexplicable fascination in them, and they always express better than other words could, what the author wishes to say. Once in telling of a very simple episode, Huck could have said, And I might have been caught with five thousand dollars that I was not - u qv it S' fi e' J' T' s dx 1 in Q C' 1 LQ s y K x 2-1 V 4 .,. , 1,-Q X-.Sbf3N... r A ' C13-fi , f,: CJAU REVIEW ...ul A A .A ,.. fe' . c ' e Y PM rv- ii' v 4 if L. Huckleberry Finn contains no arid regions as do tl works of Thackeray and Dickens, but is well watered throughout with humorous incidents. Not a page is turned without a spicy quip, and not a chapter rolls by without a frame-racking burst of laughter. I then, who consider my- self a connoisseur of good jokes, was elated when I first discovered this gold mine of Wit I like Huckleberry Finn because it is a melting-pot ontaining many ingredients: local color, description, life- like characters, and vast quantities of humor. Many a per- son might say of his favorite book that it holds his interest throughout' but this one of mine not only accomplishes, but far surpasses that feat, for it leaves a watermarkeu impression upon the reader which will remain with him to the end of his days fu , 1 X fl I X ff ff ,QL -Q A I X ' le 4 6 l i f ' fl -' u f ul! mlm , i.
