WHERE LEAD YOUR DIM-SEEN Roanwayse Where lead your dim-seen roadways? By dune or desert sand? By bleak forbidding mountain? p Where lie the routes you've planned? The routes you mapped and measured With compass, scale, and chart, While youth matched, swift and vibrant, The pulsing of your heart. You'll reap scarce store of treasure In passing down the years, And what you win you'll gather With-blood and sweat and tears. Scant hoard of gleaming silver, Of gold or precious stones, You'1l gain with endless labor, With strife and aching bones. Su crazed on wind parched deserts, Ooze trapped in miring slime, As, circling, waiting, patient, The vulture bides his time. Heat tortured in the tropics, Frost glazed upon the floe, And wrecked by every norther That heaves the keel below. Therels some you'l1 get by barter Or sharp eyed trade with Fate, And some by scanty courtesy Of deep, consu ing Hate. Perhaps in careless gamble With rotting, mouldy gear, But none for those fainthearted Who wait in port with Fear. Beyond all present chartings, You'll sail where none have sailed, And see strange beacons gleaming On islands none have hailed.
