I lg Y -fffv' rw . ' ' . 'v- ' P 'S' I ', E 2 g CLASS HISTORY g Many, many years ago, Ctwelve, to be exactl, in September of 1957, four 3 E scared and bewildered little children entered the doors of the big red school- 5 E house on the corner of Broad Street for the first time. A woman, given the Q Q name of nteachern, took each one by the hand and sat them down on little wood- 3 Q en chairs. They were all for going home but she talked them into staying. 2 AQ QFor about twelve years.J She then informed them that her name was Miss June 2 E? Knight, and asked if they might tell her theirs. Between stutters and stam- g E m6PS, she ended up with the following names: Flora Liptrott, Evelyn McIntosh, Q 3 Earleen O'Dell and Donald Stevens. We were the four that began our class and S Q now we shall tell you of our adventures through the years. Q O E After a year of hard work, scraps, hair-pulling contests and giggles, we Z Q succeeded into graduating into the second grade with a new teacher'sface to . 5 look at, Mrs. Ruby Widrig. We were joined there by Fern Murphy, Frank Purpura j Nellie Church and Evilo Ramsey. When we finally mastered the alphabet, we J Q passed with flying colors into the third grade. This year we were aptly super- Q Q vised by Mrs. Verna Eveleigh, and, along with acquiring much more knowledge, 2 M we also acquired Margaret Cady, Joe Castro and Mary Lou Hoistion. 3 y Next came the fourth grade and Mrs. Martha Stratton. Here overtime was 2 .. required and there was no time-and-a-half about itl How well we remember A lg gruelling after school on our arithmetic with the answer page in full view. g L Ah! Those were the good old days. This year we were accompanied by Eleanor Q L .Brass who joyfully joined our group of speedy copiers. Q r- . G From here on the years seemed to fly very fast. In the fifth grade, un- ' ' der Mrs. Marian Knowlton, Mary Jean Harmer came to us. Then came one of the 4 E biggest thrills of all o r years. We moved up on to the upper floor for our ? 5 sixth year with Mrs. Thelma Thomas, Cthen, Miss Brownj, as instructor. One r ' bright morning we were blessed with Mary Jane Allison's entry into our tribe. 5 f We eventually gained the title of nseventh graders' at the end of the year, Q Q and the following year were cordially invited to be seated in the seventh grade 5 K room with Mrs. Julia Brown to carry the burden of being our new teacher. This Q 5 year we were rejoined by Earleen O'Dell, who had been living in Maryland, and 5 E a new girl, Ann Kelly. We studied hard this year to gain the privilege of A N going to classes and sitting in that enormous room, the study hall. Eighth Z Yi grade made its way to us or we to it, we don't exactly recall which, but we 5 Q made lt, finally. At the beginning of this year, Joy Timmerman greeted us 3 f and decided to string along with us for the rest of our school years. 5 c 2' , On the day that we entered study hall and saw the millions of seats with Q ?. loud and boisterous upper students in them,'we were a petrified little group 9 C of Freshman. Before long, however, most of us began to realize what we were f Q doing, and what we 'ere supposed to be doing, and became our natural selves.g Q f pity the poor teachers! At this time, Ralph Kackison, Floyd Prouty and Dawn 5 ' Goode entered o r gro p of hard workers. We followed the tradition of elect- Q lf ing class officers and were assigned the Physical Education teacher. Miss Q Lillian Krayka, as class advi sor. 2 Y Our class grew larger with the arrival of Dick Etherington, Bob Simonton 3 Q Oliver Rose and Dolores Townsend in our Junior year. We were nearing ourgoal Q 6 slowly but surely. We acquired Miss Anita Bergstrom, Know, Mrs. David RussellJ,q Q the English teacher as our last and final advisor. Throughout our high school 1 lg years, we did our best earning money to finance our trip to New York which E 35 takes place in our Senior year. Q 4 as E We have at last gained the responsibility and respect of being Seniors. A Q And, now, we wish to thank each and every member of the faculty, Mr. Robinson T F our patient and understanding principal, and, especially our class advisors, Q 5 for, without their help throughtout the years, we would not be graduating in 4 Q: the CLASS OF 1949.
