Rejected Due To Budget Cuts Rejected Due To Budget Cuts Where Have All The People Gone? Where have all the people gone? In April of 1976, Governor Carey cut the Pittsburgh State operational budget, leaving it short $660,000, but, more importantly, depriving our students of their valuable education. Freshmen intake was forced to drop 317c, as was transfer admissions by 20%. In September of 1975, we accep- ted 1773 new students. In 1976 it had declined to 1550. Fifty-five positions had to be eliminated by Dr. Burke. Six teaching faculty, and 15 from the academic support staff had to be cut. People being laid off, given pink slips. Their lives are in- despensable to our students and their service inestimable. As of February 1, 1977, it was announced that another 29 posi- tions will be eliminated from our faculty due to state budget cuts. Is there no relief ahead?? 27
