Contests that the Business Department participated in in- cluded the district contests at Warrensburg, and state con- tests at Columbia. Ruskin has had district, state and na- tional vvinners since 1948 in all fields of business-short hand, typing, bookkeeping, and spelling. lVlr. Wrisinger was the 1970-71 president of the Missouri Business Education Contest Association which vvas respon- sible for administering state contests, at Columbia, the last Saturday in April. This department included such courses as Bookkeeping l and ll, Vocational Clerical Practice l and ll, Secretarial Practice, Shorthand I, Typing I, Business Arithmetic and Business Lavv, Basic Business, and the Distributive Education classes. lVlr. Wrisinger said that the overall purpose of the vocational business program is to prepare the students to find useful employment in business and clerical fields upon graduation from high school. Hovvever, many secretarial and clerical skills are useful for the college-bound student who needs part-time vvork during summers and vacations.
