duties to Career Day was held on November 5. lasting only one day, representatives from many industries and busi- ness talked individually to students. Mrs. Marjorie Langford, Mr. Charles Hoskins, Mr. Ray- mond Malotte, Mr. Bill Nicholson, and Mr. Harry Parkhurst made up the Ruskin counseling staff this year. Mr. Malotte is the vocational counselor, completing his second year in this position. He aided high school students, who do not plan on continuing their educational program, find iobs. He also helped many college-minded students find part- time work. College Night, held on November 18, was or- ganized by the counselors to help students try to decide which college to attend. Each counselor had a section of the student body as- signed to them. They tried to prepare each student for whatever field they plan to enter after graduation. Throughout the year counselors arranged meetings be- tween students, parents, and college representatives. At the beginning of school the counselors were swarmed by students waving the wrong schedule, wanting to change classes, or those who were iust confused. is . f, :sn-we www l i .7 l f n College Prep Students Aided by Counselors Mr. Malott, vocational counselor, spends most of the time helping students find iobs after school and after graduation. ' fn Students visited many types of booths at Ruskin's annual career day. ii Counselors Aid Students In Vocational Planning Throughout the year, Smith-Hale counselors Mrs. Viv- ian Van Hoozer and Mr. Robert Dean were on hand to ad- minister SCAT tests, compile class standings, and advise students in college choices. More than 50 colleges sent representatives to College Night to answer questions re- garding admission and scholarship requirements, tuition fees, and areas of curriculum. Students not planning on college attended Career Day where representatives from local companies and agencies were available to answer questions and explain new opportunities waiting for the student after graduation. Some of the participating com- panies were the Bendix Corporation, T.W,A., Macy's, Bell Telephone Company, and Hallmark Cards. MIRAGE I9
