THE RECORD Presented by The Class of 1971 Roxbury Central School Dedication We, the Class of 1971, dedicate our yearbook to Werden Goodemoot, who has been our class advisor, for the past six years. Mr. Goodemoot has always been willing to give advice, time, and energy to help our class. He has tried to instill in us a desire to help ourselves. Although our ideas have not always agreed, we respect Mr. Goode- moot’s qualities of leadership, independence, individualism, patriotism and sincerity. We are happy to dedicate our yearbook to someone who was not only our teacher and advisor, but also our friend. In Memoriam ROLAND F. ROSS The passing of Roland F. Ross, better known as Doc” to students, faculty members, and the community, brought forth a deep sadness. After better than thirty years of service to R. C.S. as its physical education director and coach. Doc retired in 1962. His record for sportsmanship in physical education remains unsurpassed, as is testified to by his many citations. At the same time his won-lost percentage in varsity inter-schol- astic competition remains among the highest. Impressive as the facts above may be, they do not begin to tell the full story of Doc Ross. Typical was his ability to involve all students in intra-mural events and the physical education process. With Doc, sportsmanship at all levels was of primary importance. Doc's life was a model of dedication and integrity. We, at R.C. S., extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Doc Ross and join with them in mourning this great loss. We were saddened this year by the death of Mr. Charles Reed. In his duties as night custodian at R.C.S., Mr. Reed often helped us with our activities in a way that made us feel he cared. The children of Roxbury will remember the many times that he repaired their bicycles, a service he performed for over thirty years. We always will remember his kindness and helpfulness. CHARLES REED Record Board RECORD BOARD ADVISOR: Mrs. Thorington SEATED: Lee Seals, Co-Editor; Gail Ruff, Business Manager; Sally Eignor, Advertising Sales; Mary Munsell; Susan Shultis; Cynthia German; Tonya Hinkley, Co-Editor. Greetings to the Class of 1971: Wherever the future leads you as you leave Roxbury Central School, you carry our good wishes for happiness and success in your endeavors. You take with you our hopes that you are well prepared to meet new challenges realizing, of course, that knowledge gained here is only a beginning. The acquisition of knowledge and wisdom is a lifelong process. We, who remain behind at Roxbury Central School, will always remember the class of 1971 for the many fine contributions made by the group and for the spirited way in which various hurdles were passed. Living in a commune WINDMILLS OF YOUR MIND mm Prophecy Let us take a look at the senior class to see how they are using their various talents in 1980. Daniel Ballard, on his way home from the Police Academy, because he was kicked out for gambling, had an accident. The Porter and Shultis 24 hr. Towing Service was called, as was the local ambulance. As Loren picked up Dan's car, Daniel fell out and Dr. MaryMunsell let out a shreik at the sight of Dan's crewcut. Meanwhile back at the farm, Tonya Hinkley was calling veterinarian Cynthia German, because one of her ugly chickens, by the name of Georgia Gail, had Margeretvilleitis. Tonya had been left along at the Poutin’ Poultry Palace by her ex-husband, Terrence J. Griffin. He apparently could not put up with the chicken sickness given him there, and left in search of the multi-millionaire Sally Eignor, now a successful, but bored, engineer. William Munro, who recently graduated from the Molokai Institute, of which Mark Jones is President, has landed a job coaching the Heley Pre-schoolers. Douglas Finch has recently broken out of prison, where David Condliffe is the Head Warden, after being convicted of breaking into Susan Shultis's Shoe Store, Prophecy Cont’d. The most Reverend James Ballard has just formed a new musical group to reach the younger genera- tion. Its name is Jaime and the Drones. Rounding out this evangelical group are Sister Karen Cole and Sister Judy McKenzie. Sarah Hewitt, now without a modeling job, has recently applied for work at the Poutin’ Poultry Palace, to get a new lead on her High School admirer T. J. Bd Millar and David Underwood, on the way down from their Canadian Commune to see Jeff Lutz commemorated at the National Art Museum, were picked up for hitchhiking. Ellen Ford, while taking her driver's test, had an accident with Mr. Goodemoot and his galloping horses. As you see, the Class of '71 is using their talents to their greatest ability, as they did in the years 1959-1971. ONLY THE BEGINNING PEACE Class of 1972 FIRST ROW - R. Clark, R. Rolland, E. Even with injuries, the Rockets had a good team that had lots of spirit. League Champions ’70-71 f t I The Roxbury Rockets' basketball team, with seven returning varsity players, have one of the strongest teams the school has had in a few years. Finding themselves in a different league, the Rockets proved that it was a mistake by easily winning the league championship. Although usually much smaller than their opponents, they make up for it with their drive and desire to win.
