In just a short while, we Seniors will leave Roxbury Central
School to pursue our fortunes. It will be a new experience for
us, and might be compared to building a house.
First, in building our lives, as a house, we must have a goal
or a plan, good materials, and a firm foundation-determination to
see the Job completed. One of the materials needed in life is faith--
falth in ourselves, our fellow men, and above all, faith in the
Almighty. We must have courage to do what is right, even when the
odds are against us. alertness is another important characteristic
to possess, for we must be awake when opportunity comes, and be
alert to inferior goods.
But above all, we must have intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm,
for without these very little can be accomplished, and no life or
house can be completed.
Carlyle once said, WGenius is the infinite capacity for hard
work.n With this we might add that along with hard work goes honesty,
to others and to ourselves.
When a carpenter builds a house, he uses only the finest tools.
Our tools are the products of the education which we have received in
the past twelve years. Whether the tools we use in life are good, has
depended mostly upon us.
We soon are to take places in society. We have been preparing
for this moment ever since we entered school. We all certainly want
to make a success of our lives. What we do when we meet the challenges
of everyday life, whether we have faith, determ1naticn,'alertness,
and courage, will determine whether we will make our lives, as a house,
long-lasting and serviceable.
