f L f The Second Annual Crowning of the Twirp King was presented on March 15, 1958, by the Student Council of Roxana Senior HighSchool. The student body elected five King candidates from the Senior boys. The highlight of the week's activities was a dance where the Kingwas announced. At the dance, each girlwho attended cast a vote for one of the five candidates. Mr. Tom Lakin received the most votes and was therefore escorted by Miss Anita Anglin to the throne, where he received a medallion which was inscribed King, RCHS, 1957 - 1958. Injuries and the widespread flu epidemic were two factors partially responsible for the four losses. Twenty-three players earned letters this year under the leadership ofCoach McLane and assistant Coach Tschannan. The team named Bob Durham, the She1l's quarterback, honorary captaing Torn Lakin, fullback, most valuable backg and John Chandler, tackle, most valuable lineman. Three players from Roxana were chosen--Tom Lakin, Bob Parsons, and Pat Hamm In recognition of being chosen, each of these play- ers was a guest at a dinner the following week. At the end of the season, all ofthese players and also those receiving honorable mention were honor- ed at a banquet. Roxana players receiving honorable mention were Bob Durham, John Chandler, and Dick Van Meter.
